Local Elections May 2008

Mon 5th Nov 2007

Liberal Democrat campaigning is well under way towards the local elections in May. The second issue of "FOCUS" since September has been distributed in key wards. Many folk are remarking that they've heard nothing from the other parties since last May's Assembly elections!

Massive Response to Hospitals Campaign

Mon 5th Nov 2007

Hundreds of replies have reached Mike Priestley who is leading the campaign to retain this area's links with hospitals on Merseyside, in Manchester and Gobowen. The plan that north and mid Wales patients should have to travel to Cardiff or Swansea for hospital treatment is totally rejected by people living in the Aberconwy constituency.

Roberts Speaks up For Child Rights

Tue 16th Oct 2007

Roger Roberts (Lord Roberts of Llandudno) spoke in the House of Lords this Thursday seeking to delete a clause in the new UK Borders Bill that would continue the practise of withdrawing any support completely from failed Asylum seekers and their families.

Breast Surgery Unit - LLandudno

Mon 1st Oct 2007

This centre is under threat of closure. If it goes the Female Surgical Ward at Llandudno Hospital is almost certain to go. Liberal Democrats value this Centre and are joining with others in urging the authorities to think again. What are our Labour M.P. and our Plaid Cymru A.M. doing to safeguard this service?

Keep the Liverpool Link

Mon 1st Oct 2007

The Welsh Assembly Labour-Plaid Cymru Government want to restrict access by north and mid Wales patients to treatment in Liverpool hospitals.

2,500 Post Offices To Go

Fri 6th Jul 2007

The Welsh Assembly Elections were held on May 3rd. Not a hint of further Post Office closures - until a week later when it was announced that a further 2,500 Post Offices were to go. The Assembly result might have been very different if this announcement had been made a week earlier - the timing brings politics into disrepute!

Quotes of the Week

"Liberalism in Britain has lost a great champion, the Liberal Democrats, a great advocate and our public life, a great servant."

Lord Paddy Ashdown

In memory of Lord Richard Holme, who died on 5 May

"If the Tories want to claim that they are going to cut corporation tax, they have to come clean about how they are going to pay for it. Cutting the main rate of corporation tax to 25% will cost more than £5bn a year. If David Cameron is to have a hope of sounding credible he must state clearly where the money will come from. Otherwise this will be seen as yet another unfunded tax cut."
